Pale Male: Citizen Hawk of New York City
Description
Pale Male is a red-tailed hawk who chose to live in New York City's Central Park. Despite the challenges of city life, he thrives and raises many chicks, becoming a beloved city icon. The birdwatchers of Central Park were buzzing when a young red-tailed hawk was spotted. The bird, dubbed Pale Male, not only stayed but also became one of New York City’s most famous residents. He and his mate built their nest atop one of Fifth Avenue's swankiest apartment buildings. Over nine years, they raised 23 chicks, and Pale Male even earned the title of Father of the Year from a CBS newsman. However, in 2004, the building's residents removed the nest, causing an international outcry in support of the birds.
