The Civil War of Amos Abernathy

Amos Abernathy, a historical reenactor, finds himself questioning the representation of LGBTQ+ people in nineteenth-century Illinois after meeting a new volunteer at his Living History Park. His discovery of Albert D. J. Cashier, a Civil War soldier who might have identified as a trans man, leads Amos to confide in his new friend through journal letters and plan to share Albert’s story with his modern-day town. This novel is a heartfelt exploration of history, first crushes, and the LGBTQ+ community, and has received numerous accolades including being an ALA Rainbow Book List Top 10 Selection and a Golden Kite Award Winner.
