The Higher Power of Lucky

The book follows the life of a ten-year-old girl named Lucky who lives in a small Californian desert town called Hard Pan. Living with her guardian Brigitte, Lucky realizes she fears her guardian would leave her to return to France. To prevent this, she plans to run away, but every plan seems to be sabotaged. Lucky faces the challenges of being abandoned, losing her friends, and giving up her hobbies. However, she hadn't planned on a dust storm or the burden of carrying a heavy survival-kit backpack into the desert.
