The story follows Maisie Cannon, a Native American girl who is struggling to find her joy after injuring her knee and being unable to continue her ballet training. Despite having a loving and supportive blended family, Maisie feels they can't understand her hopelessness. During a family road trip along the coast near her mother's Makah community, Maisie's anxieties and dark moods intensify, mirroring the pain in her knee and the tumultuous ocean. The book highlights her emotional journey and was honored with the American Indian Youth Literature Award: Middle Grade Honor Book.
